Notes from the Walter J. Ong Archive

John Paul Walter

Ph.D. Candidate
Department of English
Saint Louis University
Lecturer
Department of English
Creighton University

A member of the English Department at Creighton University, I teach classes in rhetoric and composition, new media and digital English studies, and medieval literature.

My research and teaching interests include the history and theory of composition studies and rhetoric; orality-literacy studies and the media ecology of oral, manuscript, print, and digital culture; medieval literature and language; and rhetorical, social, and cognitive approaches to memory. What unifies these diverse subjects is my overarching interest in an historicist and comparative analysis of traditions.

I serve on CCCC Committee on Computers in Composition and Communication, the editorial board of Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and the advisory board of H-Net's H-DigiRhet Discussion Network. Additionally, I was a processing archivist of the Walter J. Ong Collection at Saint Louis University.

Machina Memorialis, is my academic and commonplace blog, and Notes from the Walter J. Ong Archive was a commonplace blog for my work with the Walter J. Ong Collection.
